Professional experience

12+ Years Inside Real Port Operations

My professional foundation comes from more than a decade of hands-on work in port operations, cargo workflows, billing, reporting, documentation and operational coordination.

Traffic Department · November 2013 — Present

Mongla Port Authority

  • Junior Outdoor Assistant, Port & Terminal Operations

    Nov 2013 — Nov 2017
  • Senior Outdoor Assistant, Traffic Department (Revenue Branch)

    Nov 2017 — Present

More than 12 years of hands-on experience supporting port traffic and operational workflows involving cargo, containers, vehicles, billing, reporting, documentation, revenue-related processes and coordination with operational stakeholders.

Operational areas

Port operations, seen from the inside

Select an area. Each lists what the work actually involved, in plain international terms.

Port operations

Cargo operations

  • Cargo movement and cargo handling records.
  • Cargo dwell-time monitoring across terminal locations.
  • General cargo: non-containerized cargo, handled and billed alongside vehicles.
  • Operational documentation for cargo movements.

Container workflows

  • Container tallying.
  • Containerized cargo delivery workflows.
  • Container statistics reporting.
  • Stuffing, delivery and shipping bill workflows.

Vehicle operations

  • Vehicle delivery workflows and vehicle-related operational records.
  • Vehicle and cargo position tracking across warehouse, shed and yard.
  • Car import and delivery statistics, and vehicle balance records.
  • Customs-related vehicle reporting, including auction vehicles.

Billing and commercial operations

  • Wharf-rent (port facility usage charge) billing: slab-wise charge calculation, VAT and levy, and the inside / outside cargo split.
  • Vehicle, general cargo, and stuffing, delivery and shipping-related billing; demurrage.
  • Advance billing estimates and billing records.
  • Applies the port’s published tariff; does not set tariff policy.

Revenue and operational reporting

  • Daily and monthly revenue reports and cumulative income statements.
  • Monthly Traffic Department reporting for port authority management.
  • Container, cargo, vehicle and jetty statistics.
  • Excel-based data preparation and record checking.

Documentation and administrative workflows

  • Operational and billing documentation, and reports.
  • Bank-deposit (challan) workflow and monthly statements.
  • Customs-related reporting.
  • Operational records.

Operational coordination

  • Customs & freight-forwarding (C&F) agents: documentation, billing queries and advance payment planning.
  • Shipping agents and stevedoring stakeholders.
  • Customs-related stakeholders and port authority management.
  • Coordination only; no authority over external organisations.

Data and reporting

  • Turning daily operational records into structured, recurring reports.
  • Cumulative and month-by-month figures kept consistent across billing, vehicle balances and statistics.
  • Record checking before figures are reported.

Process automation

  • Repetitive calculation and reporting steps identified while doing the work.
  • First structured in Excel, then rebuilt as small web tools.
  • Result: the Port Billing System, CarView and OT Bill Automation, plus OpsFlow as a product project.

Career evolution

From Operational Work to Automation

Nov 2013 Joined Mongla Port Authority

  1. Manual operational work

Daily billing, tallying and reporting done by hand, with the port’s own systems and paper.

  2. Excel-based records

Personal and shared spreadsheets holding operational figures.

  3. Advanced Excel automation

Excel formulas and automation to remove repeated calculation and reporting steps.

  4. Business process analysis

Writing the workflow and rules down before automating any of it.

  5. Custom internal tools

Small purpose-built calculators for a single recurring task.

  6. Web applications

Those tools rebuilt as installable web apps other staff can use.

  7. Business systems

Connected records, roles and reports: billing, tracking and overtime bills.

  8. AI-assisted product development

Using AI tools to build faster, while I own requirements, rules and validation. OpsFlow is the product project.

Present Building operations technology

The software journey grew out of operational problems. Milestones are shown without dates because only the employment period is exact.

Business process understanding

What I Understand From the Inside

  • OperationsHow real-world operational workflows move from one step to the next.
  • BillingHow operational activity becomes billable transactions.
  • DataHow operational records become structured information.
  • ReportingHow data becomes recurring operational and revenue reports.
  • CoordinationHow several stakeholders interact around the same workflow.
  • AutomationWhere repetitive manual processes can be structured and automated.

Domain expertise

Grounded in the work I have actually done

  • Port Operations

Cargo, container, vehicle and traffic-related operational workflows.

  • Logistics Operations

Delivery, movement, documentation and operational coordination around cargo and vehicles.

  • Cargo Billing

Billing workflows, charge calculation and operational records.

  • Revenue & Reporting

Operational statistics, revenue reporting and structured data workflows.

  • Business Process Automation

Turning repetitive operational processes into structured digital workflows.

  • Operations Technology

Connecting real operational knowledge with software and automation.

Expertise here means experience in these workflows. It does not mean broker, forwarder, consultant or certified-logistics credentials.

Technology evolution

Self-directed / AI-assisted

  • Excel automation
  • Business process analysis
  • Web applications
  • Business systems
  • Product development
  • AI-assisted development

My technology journey did not begin with a computer science degree. It grew from working directly with operational processes, data, billing and reporting inside a port environment. As repetitive problems became visible, I started automating them with Excel and later moved toward custom web applications and business systems, using AI-assisted development to accelerate implementation.

Education: Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC), Business Studies, 2011.

Why the combination matters

Starting from the workflow, not the technology

Traditional software development can start from technology and move toward the business problem. My approach starts from the operational workflow and moves toward the technology required to improve it.
